Can You Trust AI to Run a Building?

Can you trust AI to run a building? Aireavu’s AI cut user-driven energy waste by up to 87% in Portakabin buildings, and occupants kept full control.

Handing a building's heating and cooling to software is a fair thing to worry about. Whether you can trust AI building management comes down to what you can see and who stays in charge.

If you're the one who answers for a building, AI building control is a reasonable thing to worry about. Say the cooling stays off on a hot day, or a fault goes unnoticed overnight. The facilities manager gets the call, not the software. So when people ask whether you can trust AI to run a building, they usually want to know two things: can I see what it's doing, and are the people in the building still in control?

Aireavu fits third-party sensors to a building to track occupancy, air quality and energy use. Its AI building control can then adjust the heating and cooling to match how the space is really being used. In Aireavu's deployment  with Portakabin, the AI monitored and controlled occupied buildings across the UK and cut user-driven energy waste by up to 87%. Comfort was maintained or improved, and the people using the buildings kept full control of their settings.  The system was independently evaluated by experts who  found it transparent, reliable and trustworthy. That means operators can automate their buildings and still see what the AI is doing.

Being able to see what the system is doing matters even more when people haven't been trained on it. MRI Software surveyed nearly 600 commercial real estate professionals for its 2026 Commercial Real Estate Pulse Check. A majority said AI tools are important to the industry's future success, but 54% said their organisation offers no AI training at all. When more than half of organisations offer no training, trust in AI building management depends a lot on being able to see what the system is doing.

For a facilities manager, that means AI building automation handles routine jobs, like turning down the heating on an empty floor, and the manager can check what it did. For a building owner, it means the savings come with an independent evaluation of how the system behaves, which helps when someone asks you to explain a decision later.

Book a consultation with Aireavu to see what AI building control would look like in your own building, and what you'd be able to see while it runs.
